We fit all types of contact lenses at Aves, and almost everyone is suitable to wear them. Age, whether young or old, is certainly not a barrier. So whether you’d like to try lenses for sport or fancy a replacement from varifocal glasses, do talk to us about trying contact lenses.
People choose to wear contact lenses for many different reasons. For some, contact lenses replace their spectacles for everyday wear, whilst others enjoy the flexibility of wearing contact lenses some of the time, e.g. for sport, socially or on holiday.

The first step is to find out about the type of lens that may be suitable for you. This depends on many factors including:
- Your prescription
- How often you want to wear your lenses
- Your occupation and work environment
- Your tear film and eye sensitivity
First of all we’ll do a full eye examination to find your prescription and to check that your eyes are healthy, followed by a specific contact lens fitting. During the fitting, you will wear diagnostic contact lenses to check your suitability for contact lens wear. Further checks of your eyes and tear film help to assess the most suitable type of lens for your personal needs.
At Aves you are not committed to purchase lenses at your initial visit – if you decide lenses are not for you, you will simply pay for your eye examination and the initial fitting fee. However, if you get on well at the initial fitting, we will teach you how to handle and care for the lenses, so that you can take some home to try. After a follow up appointment a few days later, we can then go ahead and order lenses.
The cost of your lenses depends on which type fits your lifestyle. Whether you want to wear your lenses every day or just for sports, we have the lens for you.
As independent practitioners, we can source our contact lenses from all manufacturers and our prices are comparable with supermarkets and internet suppliers. You choose whether you want to purchase contact lenses as you go along or as part of our Care Plan with full professional cover, on a monthly direct debit payment.
Most patients choose our Care Plan because it spreads the cost, includes all your contact lens check-ups and free replacement lenses if lost or damaged. You also get great discounts on spectacles and sunglasses.
Daily Disposables start at around £1 per day including all your contact lens are. Monthly disposables start from as little as 70p per day including all contact lens check ups, cleaning solutions and regular lens supply.
As independent optometrists, Aves are able to fit any brand of contact lens. This is great for you, because it means that we can ensure that you get the best possible contact lens to suit you.
Silicon hydrogel is the new buzz word in contact lens materials. This extremely comfortable lens material lets more oxygen through to the eye than any other lens material. This allows the eye to “breathe” as if you didn’t have a contact lens on the eye at all. As well as being the healthiest option on the market, it’s also the most comfortable, as it doesn’t tend to dry out like other water-based materials can do. Silicon hydrogel contact lenses are now available from all the major suppliers as daily disposables as well as re-usable 2 weekly and monthly lenses. They are also available as toric lenses, which correct astigmatism and as multifocal lenses for those who need more help with their reading vision.Multifocal lenses correct a condition called presbyopia, which is the difficulty we encounter with reading in our 40s. These amazing contact lenses allow good vision for both distance and near, without the need for reading glasses, which most of us start to need as we get older.
At the other end of the spectrum is a daily disposable contact lens designed for children and teenagers who are becoming short sighted. These specialist contact lenses have been designed to slow down/halt the progression of short sightedness in young people.
Ortho K offers a new dawn for vision correction, clear, comfortable vision without the need to wear contact lenses at all during the day. Worn at night, they work to reshape your cornea whilst you sleep and, in the morning, you can remove them.
