Aves hosts historic blue plaque

Aves Optometrists has been part of Epping High Street for many years, established by Ernest Aves over 80 years ago. Tim and Polly Dulley took over the practice back in 2000, over 22 years ago. When we were approached by Epping History Society along with Epping Town Council, asking whether we might host an historic blue plaque on our building, we were naturally both interested and excited.

We discovered that Epping market, held every Monday in the High Street, right outside our building, is one of the oldest in the UK. In fact, it was granted a Royal Charter by Henry III back in 1253. We were asked, as one of the oldest businesses and buildings in the High Street, whether we would like to host an historic blue plaque, marking this honour. Of course, we agreed immediately!

On Monday, 16th May 2022, we were joined by the newly appointed mayor of Epping, Barbara Scruton, along with members of the town council, market stall holders and members of the public, to unveil the blue plaque. We feel very proud to act as hosts to the plaque and wish Epping market every success in the future.
